MIDS Cost-Benefit Group Convenes
Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 4:25PM BATC has been at the MIDS policy development table for the last three years. The MIDS (Minimum Impact Design Standards) effort represents the next generation of stormwater compliance that will impact BATC members in virtually every future project. These requirements, such as rain gardens and infiltration basins, are part of a group of emerging technologies grouped together as low impact development (LID).
As federal requirements continue to increase the water protection related to site runoff, MIDS best practices will be necessary to meet these federal requirements. The Cost-Benefit Group is looking at the best management practices true benefit, as well as the construction and ongoing costs to maintain them. The group will be modeling actual residential projects to measure the costs in a realistic scenario. The cost-benefit conclusions will provide a valuable measuring stick for all stakeholders interested in the prudence and feasibility of MIDS.
